It is so much easier to understand when we have the columns sorted. The first column is the variable we want to investigate, and the other columns contain the variable we want to analyze. These are the variables we are going to experiment with and change in order to examine our results.
The column named “Variable” in the original project file is always the variable that was never selected. We have no control over what it is, so we can leave it at this. As we proceed, we can change other variables to “Selected” columns.

One of the major frustrations for students who are designing experiments involving non-normal distributions is that they may not always know the exact value of the variances prior to running the experiment. As an example, many students would be familiar with the Student’s t-test statistics where the means of the two response variables are calculated and the expected variances of those means are computed.
It may seem that it would be extremely difficult to simulate this process using SAS, since the entire logic for calculating the expected variances relies on random sampling of the data. Fortunately, I have found a relatively simple solution to this problem. Using a proper Random Variables Procedure, a researcher can easily reproduce Student’s t-test results in the SAS environment.
I mentioned a couple of problems with calculating the variances prior to running the Student’s t-test; however, I found that the errors are usually much smaller if the experiment is run in a simulation rather than using actual data. In this case, when we run the simulation, we normally do not use actual data to get the variances, and thus the errors are eliminated.
In a separate post, I have outlined how to use the Random Variables Procedure to Run a Simulated Experiment. Here, I will focus on the procedure itself. In order to successfully reproduce Student’s t-test results with a Random Variables Procedure, there are a few steps to follow.
In the first step, the data are copied into a new table and then the table is copied into a second table. Next, a series of procedures are run on the first table. It is extremely important that you closely follow the procedures in order to avoid mistakes during execution. If you want to replicate Student’s t-test results using a Random Variables Procedure, make sure that you follow the procedures carefully.
After the data have been copied into a new table, the df procedure will be run on the first table. The df procedure will calculate the mean of the correlated columns and the df <> cdf operator is used to determine if they are equal. In order to evaluate the sample’s ability to replicate the analysis using the Student’s t-test statistic, the calculated p-value is evaluated and compared to the original p-value from the Student’s t-test. The resulting values are compared to see if the p-value is greater than zero.
In the second step, the sample is now run through the mean, SD, median, and mode procedures. The sample is run through these procedures three times, and each time the sample’s estimated standard error is computed. After the sample’s standard error is computed, the SD and median are used to compute the estimate of standard error. Finally, the sample’s sample mean is calculated and compared to the predicted mean to see if the sample means are different.
After all of the steps are performed, the p-value is calculated and compared to the original p-value from the Student’s t-test. The difference between the p-value and the original p-value from the Student’s t-test is considered a rejection of the null hypothesis that the null hypothesis is true.
This procedure is referred to as ‘Simulating’ because it replicates the Student’s t-test. ‘Replicating’ implies that the simulation was correctly run under the same conditions as the original experiment. It is important to note that the results of the simulation are not necessarily accurate. a replication of the original experiment.

It is a great idea for exploratory analysis. If you are in charge of a lot of money and are very uncertain about your statistics, you could try to use a regression model with a large number of variables. But if you run a large set of smaller models on the small subset of data, you have much better chances of having a significant result. The first model that you should use is the lm function. When you use the lm function, you can choose the level of goodness of fit. To do this, you must specify a variance or R squared. That will specify the amount of variability in the data set.
To determine the amount of variability in the data, you use the variance and sample mean. Then you calculate the variance with the sum of squares. Finally, you compare this to the sample mean and compute the r square. This will give you the R squared.
The second model is the model of alternating covariances. In this model, you choose the variable and then choose the values of the other variable. This means that all the variables are set at their means, so you can use the lm function to compute the R squared, which is the average variance of the other variables.
The third model, you can use is the model of varying covariances. In this model, you use the covariance matrix of the data set. You use the covariance matrix to compute the variance of the dependent variable and you can then use the lm function to compute the R squared.
You can also use the lm function to convert the variables into a regression model. There is another SAS function that allows you to convert the variables into a regression model.
